, oakland is also 35, concord 31 livermore coming in at 30 degrees. you want your readers cranking as temperatures will continue to drop over the next couple of hours. elsewhere in the north bay we have the coldest numbers. 28 for napa and vallejo navato is at the freezing mark with 32. elsewhere we're talking low to mid 30's. it feels like 30 degrees when you factor in the wind chill. napa feels like it is in the mid- 20s. it is definitely a cold start out there. the temperatures are called is in the north bay and the national weather service has issued a freeze warning for that area. frost advisory is also an effect for the bay shoreline and the interior east bay. what this means is that it is really cold this morning. plans are at risk this morning until 8:00 today. cold temperatures will be around sunrise this morning those temperatures will continue to drop this morning. there's also an increase in clouds and looks like this afternoon there will be plenty of sun sig shine. the cloudless insulates of the he will get throughout the day to day. it will not be as cold tonight and tom

there were eight customers inside of the post office at the time of the evacuation. over my shoulder you can see this is still very much an active scene. this is what we know, crews and haz-mat units are investigating a suspicious substance found on a package at the laurel branch in oakland. oakland police tell me oakland fire received a call around 10 a.m. that an employee had an unknown substance leaking from a package. in less than 20 minutes, officials had cleared the facility of employees and customers. outside the building in the parking lot two employees of the office office reported signs coughing and eye irritation. those two employees are receiving treatment from first responders.back live i can telle oakland postmaster general has arrived. they are evacuating the situation. no one has been allowed to pass the barrier because they've not cleared the area. we have seen some of the first responders remove the haz-mat gear they had been wearing giving an indication that whatever threat there may have been, it may not still be active. once again they have not cleared the scene. we

cold weather. it is freezing outside. when you lived at napa and vallejo there in the upper 20s. >> temperatures are at 28 degrees but the windshield is that 23 degrees. oakland is at 35 degrees. they have actually warmed up since last hour. the same thing is for hayward. san francisco was the mormon spot at 41 degrees. we do have a freeze morning in affect for the north bay area. there is a frost revisory for the bay shore line and into your east bay until 8:00 a.m.. right now is 7 01 a.m.. >> we are not tracking any hot spots right now. here is a quick bridge check. the toll plaza is not too bad. it is about a 13 minute drive time out of the east shore freeway. it is about 18 to 20 minutes if you are coming from the macarthur mayes. highway 92 has not seen a spike in drive time. you can still get a cross in about 11 to 13 minutes. the golden gate bridge is an easy trip and still and easy ride on 1 01 southbound. >> on to our developing story. a body in an apartment complex was found. kron 4 urs will tran has been following the latest. >> around 1:00 the morning someone here of

violent incident thankfully averted at the laurel high school. investigators got a tip from the students and found diagrams and drawingings that suggested a violent act might have been in the planningstages. there was a student taken away in custody away from school grounds and he's been admitted to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation. there was no immediate threat at the school itself. even as most schools in newtown, connecticut, reopen today, one elementary school was kept closed because of some sort of threat. not sandy hook elementary but yet another school. a principal told parents to keep their kids home. tonight in newtown, families are holding wakes for several victims of last friday's shooting at sandy hook. today two more 6-year-olds were laid to rest. >>> not so long ago, national rifle association broke its silence regarding the newtown massacre. in a statement it released, it said the members were shocked and saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders. it also said they wanted to give the families time to mourn before speaking ou

you can take a look at these cars frost all over them. we're in san anselmo where these freezing temperatures are expected to last until 8:00 this morning. some of last night's overnight temperatures were the coldest we have seen since january. temperatures where we are are expected to reach freezing or below and it's not just here in the north bay. last night it reached 39 degrees in pleasanton. and neighbors there definitely felt the chill in the air. >> we have layers on most of the kids i think three layers on both of them, socks under the sleepers so we're good to go. >> reporter: the freezing temperatures won't be here long. we are expected to warm back up and as liz mentioned bring a little rain and that makes state water managers happy since july 132% more rain than normal in san francisco. oakland has had more than 9" of rainfall since summer, 7" more than last year. looking live at this car covered in frost. as for these cold temperatures, if you are here in the north bay, get ready for the chilly morning commute. i can actually see my breath. probably doesn't translate

at this storage unit in campbell around the corner from this apartment building behind me. at 1:00 this morning, somebody reported smoke coming from that storage unit when they got here firefighters put out a small fire and found the body of an adult inside. the police won't say how that person died if it's the fire or during the fire. they are calling it an undetermined death investigation not a murder investigation. >> at this point we don't have specific evidence to call it a homicide. we are look at the different possibilities. once we get questions answered we'll be able to better determine what happened here this morning. >> reporter: unit is 6 by 4 feet detached from the apartment building part of a car pot. there is minimal damage to the unit because the fire department put out the fire very quickly. but arson investigators are here and the police are waiting for more information from the coroner as to who this person was and how this person died. live in campbell, anne makovec, cbs 5. >> thank you. >>> now to a developing story we have been following out of siskiyou county

lead to a college campus lock down for several hours in san jose. it happened at san jose city college. abc7 news reporter john alston is there live with the latest for us. john? >> carolyn, that all clear came at 7:45. no shots were fired. no gunman was found. for about four hours, no one was quite sure. heavily-armed officers from san jose city college and the city police department swarmed over the campus where hundreds of students were in the middle of their exienl exams. their final exams. the officers searched all five floors of the technology building. >> the scarest part of the evening was when the police came in with their guns basically up. >> on the third floor were journalism students from the san jose college times who took pictures as the drama unfolded. reporters and photographers with the best vantage point. >> they came through the side door, the adjoining classroom and ordered us hands up, drop your cameras, drop whatever you are doing. at which point they told us what they were going to do. they were going to frisk us, check our bags and let us out. >> the search beg

and those medical imaging tests are the most appropriate, are at the right dose, especially for kids are a lot of times, they don't know how to scale down for a child-size body and the machines may not calibrate or have clear directions on how to make that happen so in our own lives, we can ask our health care provides, are there safer alternative, mri or ultrasounds for doing this test, and then if you have kids and they need a test, ensure and ask questions about the safest dose and if they have machines that can calibrate to kids, and then we have to see these changes with the laws so if fda has proposals out for medical imaging around kids so you know how to downsize a radiation dose for kids who is smaller, their physical size is narrower, and also to make machines more accountable and more clear in how they work. >> [inaudible]. >> it's very low doses but that's an excellent question and i thought somebody would probably ask that. so, the united states preventative services task force in 2009 came out with a proposal to revise guidelines saying that perhaps women aged 40 t

evening i'm dan. search for gunman now called off. this began at 4:30 this afternoon with a text message about a man with a gun. these are pictures from the city college times. police going door to door on campus but right now all indications are that the san jose city college campus is safe. 7 news reporter jon is there live for us tonight to walk us through exactly what happened there this evening. john? >>reporter: well first off everything is back to normal. the all clear was given at about 7:45 tonight. nearly 4 hours after this situation started. now just after 4:00 o'clock the san jose college dispatch got a call from someone saying they were approached by another person who had a gun. man described as wearing a white t-shirt. after that police descended on the tech center where classes and final exams were taking place. students alerted by text. some students also texted themselves from the student center and financial aid center and as precaution places swarmed that location. san jose police 911 also got a call. as a result heavily armed officers went through all 5 stori
